The city is serviced by taxis, buses, ferries and trams. The Airport Express There is a rail service runs from Hong Kong Station in the Central and Western District to the airport station at Chek Lap Kok. This service runs via Kowloon. The service operates from 0550 to 0115 daily. There is an in town check-in service available for passengers at Hong Kong and Kowloon stations. This service is available for most airlines. Taxis There are three types of taxis operating in Hong Kong, distinguished by their colours, which indicate their areas of service: Red: taxis operate in most of Hong Kong, except for Tung Chung Road and the south side of Lantau Island; Green: taxis serve the rural areas of the New Territories. Blue: taxis operate on Lantau Island. MTR The MTR is a fast an efficient rail system covering all major districts over 168km of track. According the MTR website, the MTR is regarded as one of the world's leading railways for safety, reliability, customer service and cost efficiency. Octopus Cards Octopus cards are re-chargeable cards that can be used on most public transport and in shops and restaurants. Having an Octopus card removed the need for carrying small change. Octopus cards are available for loan on payment of a $50 deposit. Points of interest/attractions Shopping Hong Kong is a shopping mecca, with huge shopping malls co-existing with small street markets. Stanley Market Stanley Market is an interesting place to visit while you’re in Hong Kong. You will find an array of wonderful items on offer here including silk, jewellery, souvenirs as well as many restaurants to try. Victoria Peak The Peak, as it is known by locals, offers fantastic views across Hong Kong. It can be reached by tram, but try to go on a clear day as the view will be obscured when the weather is bad. Restaurants and shops are available within the Peak building. Disneyland Hong Kong For those wishing to see Mickey Mouse and his friends, it is easy to get to Disneyland Hong Kong by public transport and, once in the park, walking is probably the best way to see all that there is on offer. One day tickets are available at the park entrance, the MTR station in Hong Kong or online. For regular visitors, an annual pass is available.
