London Travel Guide
London is the largest city in the UK and is where the UK seat of government is situated within the Houses of Parliament. It is also the home of the Monarchy, with Buckingham Palace being the official residence of the Queen. London has a long and interesting history dating back to Roman times and the city is a mix of the historical and modern. London is situated in the south east of England at the mouth of the River Thames estuary. It was this riverside location and access to the sea that enabled the city to develop and flourish as a port. Although no longer used as a major port due to the depth of ships meaning that they are unable to get all the way up the Thames to London, the river still plays a large part in the life of the city. There are numerous bridges crossing the Thames, with the main ones being the iconic Tower Bridge and London Bridge.
London is located just under 500km from Dublin. Cheap flights to London are available from a number of airlines including Aer Lingus, Ryanair and BMI.
